SDLP's Eastwood feeling doubly blessed as twins on the way
They say politics is all about delivery - but one MLA and his wife will soon be concerned with another type of delivery.
That's because SDLP leader Colum Eastwood and his wife learned this week that Rachael is expecting twins, due in early spring.
The couple have been inundated with good wishes and congratulations on Facebook and Twitter.
The new arrivals are eagerly awaited by Colum, Rachael and their daughter Rosa - who celebrated her first birthday on the day of the last Assembly election in May.
In what is undoubtedly one of the busiest periods in his political career, Foyle MLA Mr Eastwood won't have much time to dwell on the daunting task of being a father to three very young children.
In a Belfast Telegraph interview last year, Mr Eastwood paid a warm tribute to his soul singer wife.
"She's something else. Rachael is a fantastic singer and businesswoman," he said. "And as an events organiser she is great.
"She also understands people very well, and that is a great quality when you are married to someone like me," he added.
The Eastwood family isn't the only SDLP brood to swell its numbers recently.
Fellow Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan and his wife Anne welcomed Ferdia in August last year, a baby brother to the couple's two-year-old daughter Lily and Mr Durkan's son Luke.
North Belfast MLA Nichola Mallon has one-year-old baby daughter Elena, and South Belfast MLA Clare Hanna and her husband Donal Lyons have just a few more weeks to go before they welcome a new addition to their family.
