Security alert at Luton Airport sees flights cancelled
A security alert at London's Luton Airport – which caused chaos for hundreds of passengers – led to flights from Belfast International being cancelled.
EasyJet said two evening services to London were among 41 of its flights affected by a bomb scare yesterday.
Hundreds of passengers were left to wait outside the Bedfordshire terminal following an evacuation.
The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to the departure terminal at 1.36pm after airport security raised concerns about an item that was passed through a security check. A controlled explosion was carried at 5.15pm and although the item was "deemed suspicious", police said it did not present a wider danger.
A spokesman said no-one has been arrested in relation to the incident. An EasyJet spokesman apologised for any inconvenience caused to passengers travelling to and from Belfast and elsewhere.
