Self service checkouts 'turning customers into shoplifters'
New era self-service checkouts are turning more people to crime as they begin to use a range of tricks to avoid paying the full price for some items and for some, pay nothing at all.
Shoppers have begun to select cheaper fruit and vegetables when weighing larger items and are also pressing the ‘small’ option for larger items when required to enter the size of produce.
Some brazen people are bagging foodstuffs without scanning their items mat all and others have been found, in new research, to even tamper with scales.
Almost a third of people have admitted to stealing while putting items through scanners, while a quarter of those who do not succumb to the temptation, admitted the only reason they didn’t was for fear of being caught.
