One of Northern Ireland's most senior police commanders is leaving to take a job heading up the North Yorkshire force.
Assistant Chief Constable Dave Jones has been selected as the preferred candidate for Chief Constable of the English force.
A former top officer with Greater Manchester Police, Mr Jones joined the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) in 2008. He was in charge of policing the rural region.
Brian Rea, chair of the Policing Board - the PSNI's oversight body - thanked the officer for his contribution.
"I am delighted that ACC Jones has been selected as the preferred candidate for this Chief Constable post and wish him every success in his new role," he said.
"After nearly five years of service with the PSNI, I would also wish to place on record my thanks to him for the contribution he has made to policing in Northern Ireland and have no doubt this experience will stand him in good stead for the future."
Mr Rea said board members would be discussing the appointment of a new ACC for the PSNI with Chief Constable Matt Baggott in due course.
