Shortlist announced for the Northern Ireland Music Prize

Twelve albums have been shortlisted for the Northern Ireland Music Prize.

Sponsored by Blue Moon the 2016 winner will be announced at a special awards night at the Mandela Hall on November 11.

More than 70 judges were contacted from the Northern Ireland music industry and music media to compile the shortlist.

They were invited to cast their votes for the best album of the last 12 months.

The NIMP is produced by the Oh Yeah music centre and is also supported by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Charlotte Dryden, chief executive of the Oh Yeah Music Centre said: "The last 12 months have seen so many outstanding records from Northern Ireland.

"Some of our favourite acts are in there but importantly there are quite a few debut albums also. Our music community is clearly in good health and this is set to be another rousing celebration.”

The awards evening will end with a special presentation – the Oh Yeah Legend Award Supported by Blue Moon and PRS.

This will be presented to Ash. The Downpatrick act will play their ‘1977’ album at the end of the evening to mark its 20th anniversary.

The event will feature live music on the night from Ports, Jealous Of The Birds and Girls Names.

The Northern Ireland Music Prize In Association With Blue Moon is produced by the Oh Yeah music centre and is also supported by The Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
