The Duchess of Cornwall paid a poignant first visit to her great-uncle's grave yesterday.

Captain Harry Cubitt was killed at the Somme with the Coldstream Guards. He was the eldest of three sons who died and the only one found. He is buried near the town of Albert.

Camilla said: "To see him with a lovely grave in this beautiful place really does make a difference.

"You just cannot believe it, but there are thousands of others like that. It is a lost generation, and for what?

"It is such a long time ago, and it made me suddenly realise what it must have been like for my great-grandparents to have three sons within 18 months of one another being killed."

Camilla explained she was fascinated by a picture at his grave, but did not know who left it.

"I have never seen a photograph of him before," she added. "It is him, because it looks exactly like my grandfather."
