South Belfast car theft: Two arrests after police chopper pursuit
Two men have been arrested after a Volkswagen Golf was stolen in the south Belfast area on Wednesday afternoon.
The car was stolen from the Camden Street area and later failed to stop for police in north Belfast. It was later brought to a stop after a pursuit involving a PSNI police helicopter.
Chief Inspector Norman Haslett said: “With the assistance of the police helicopter, trained officers from the Auto Crime Team pursued the stolen vehicle where it was brought to a stop in the Ballymacarrett Road area of east Belfast at approximately 5.15pm.
"The two men were arrested with the assistance of Belfast City District Support Team and Local Policing Team officers.
“One man, aged 22, has been arrested on suspicion of 10 offences including aggravated taking & driving away (TADA), burglary and a number of driving offences.
"The other man, aged 33, has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated TADA, burglary and going equipped for theft. They currently remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”
