South Belfast homes cleared as copper thieves cause gas leak
A South Belfast house had to be sealed off after burglary caused a suspected gas leak.
Police are investigating after receiving reports of a break-in at the home in Camden Street on Sunday.
Shortly after 5.45pm it was reported to officers that the property was broken into before a quantity of copper was stolen.
"Police evacuated a number of properties in the area after a report of a suspected gas leak in the house. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and the area was declared safe a short time afterwards," a PSNI spokesman said.
"At this stage police believe the gas leak may have occurred as a result of the theft."
