Special delivery for UUP candidate
An Ulster Unionist party leadership contender has skipped campaigning as he delivered his wife's baby boy.
South Down Northern Ireland assembly member John McCallister performed the emergency procedure on the bathroom floor at home in Co Down after the couple were unable to reach hospital in time.
He was talked through it by medical staff on the telephone when his wife Jane began having serious contractions almost a week early. Within half an hour Harry James, weighing 7lbs 10oz, was born.
Mr McCallister said: "He was definitely coming today, there was no stopping him."
