Actor and Radio 1 presenter Ceallach Spellman has been cast as the son of James Nesbitt's character in the Cold Feet reboot.

Spellman will play Matthew, the son of Adam (Nesbitt) and Rachel (Helen Baxendale), who was last seen as a baby when the ITV series ended in 2003.

Nesbitt, currently starring in Stan Lee's Lucky Man on Sky, took a break from filming Cold Feet in Manchester to watch the Irish Gold Cup Day at the Leopardstown Races on Saturday.

In November it was revealed that Cold Feet is to return for a sixth series.

Spellman said: "I am excited and humbled to be given the opportunity to be part of this fantastic story, which was so popular and successful 14 years ago."

The 20-year-old will star alongside original stars Nesbitt, Robert Bathurst, Hermione Norris, John Thomson and Fay Ripley.

Spellman has previously appeared in BBC One's Waterloo Road and Channel 4 drama Cucumber. He started presenting CBBC's Friday Download show in 2011 and was given his own Radio 1 programme, The Number 1 Show, last year.

Spellman added: "I cannot wait to work with all the cast and crew and particularly look forward to working alongside my on-screen dad James Nesbitt - even if he is a Man United fan.

"I hope I can help make this series every bit as special, entertaining and memorable as the first five series were all those years ago."

The new series is currently shooting in Manchester. It will be broadcast later this year on ITV.
