Sports star search gets off the starting blocks

The hunt is on for Newtownabbey’s top sports stars, both past and present after the council launched the 2010 Newtownabbey Sports Awards and Sporting Hall of Fame at the Ulster Sports Museum Travelling exhibition at Mossley Mill.

The Sports Awards are celebrating their 10th year. The categories are now as follows:

Services to sport

Club of the yea

Sports coach of the year

Adult sports person of the year

Junior sports person of the year

Junior team of the year

Sports person of the year with a disability

Again this year top three in the category of junior team of the year will be decided by a public internet vote.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for all sporting talent in Newtownabbey to be showcased and gives all aspects of sport in the Borough the chance to have their hard work and efforts rewarded,” said Dean Holmes, Sport and Play Development Officer.

Closing date for application forms for the 2010 Sports Awards is Monday, January 31, so if you think that you, your club or anyone you know has achieved excellence in sport in 2010 and their efforts should be rewarding complete the application form as soon as possible.
