Belfast was awash with green today as thousands gathered to celebrate St Patrick's Day across the city.

The celebrations kicked off with the annual St Patrick's Day Carnival which left Belfast City Hall at 12 noon.

Large crowds lined the streets as the colourful spectacle made its way across Donegall Square North, down Donegall Place, Royal Avenue, turns right onto Donegall Street, onto Bridge Street, left onto High Street and ended at Custom House Square for the free outdoor concert.

Thousands gathered for the concert which took place from 12.45pm to 3pm and was hosted by Cool FM’s Breakfast presenters Pete Snodden, Paulo Ross and Rebecca McKinney.

It was headlined by winner of X-Factor 2014 Ben Haenow winner of X-Factor 2014 and also performing was former Westlife star Brian McFadden.

The crowd, who were dressed in every shade of green, enjoyed high energy performances from 2014 Britain’s Got Talent semi finalist’s Irish Dance group ‘Innova’, the Belfast Boys Model drummers and traditional music group ‘Altagore’.

Completing the line up for the day was local singer/songwriter, Triona Carville, the first local artist to make it to Cool FM’Shazam charts with her cover of Ash’s song “Shining Light”.

The sun shone as the sea of green crowd sang along during the concert.

Afterwards Ben took to Twitter thanking the "epic" Belfast crowd.

BELFAST YOU MADE MY DAY!! What an EPIC crowd!! #StPatricksDay
