Stay of execution for Co Down school buildings

Published 19/04/2011

A former school and teacher’s home in Co Down under threat of demolition have been placed under DoE protection for up to six months.

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency has spot-listed the former St John’s Primary School and Teacher’s House, St John’s Road, Hillsborough.

The issuing of the Building Preservation Notice will mean the DoE will now have time to carry out detailed research and consultation, after which it will decide whether or not the building needs to be permanently listed.
