Stepfather abused six-year-old
A pervert who was convicted of sexually abusing his six-year-old stepdaughter has been jailed for five years with an additional two years to be served on licence.
Jailing the 30-year-old at Belfast Crown Court, Judge Gemma Loughran said she was imposing the extended sentence in order to protect the public from future offences.
She told the Belfast man, who cannot be identified to protect his young victim, his offences were aggravated because of the girl’s age and because he was in a position of trust.
At the end of his trial last April, the pervert was convicted of three counts of indecent assault and two of committing an act of gross indecency with a child on various dates in 2007 and 2008.
The jury heard the man was in an “on-off” relationship with the victim’s mother but when he was released from jail in 2007 he began to abuse the girl.
