‘Stun gun’ man to be sentenced
A man described as a dissident republican punishment gang member who admitted possessing an improvised stun gun will be sentenced in the new year.
Kieran McCool (42), of Ederowen Park, Londonderry, has admitted possessing a camera which had been adapted for use as a stun gun.
The magistrates’ court heard the weapon was found near Laburnum Terrace in the Bogside on July 16.
During previous court appearances on the same charge the investigating police officer described the defendant as “an active member of a dissident republican punishment gang”.
The officer also said in previous court appearances that the number of dissident paramilitary attacks had decreased since the defendant's arrest last July.
He also said that the defendant admitted testing the improvised stun gun on a metal plate which resulted in scorch damage to the plate.
District Judge Barney McElholm ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
McCool was released on continuing bail until he is sentenced on January 10.
