Take a seat, back the arts

Published 17/02/2011

The Lyric is offering supporters the chance to mark a special date, pay a lasting tribute to a friend or loved one by naming a seat in the new theatre.

So far over 260 seats have been named including one by Joy Scott of Bangor and Marie McQuillan from Belfast.

Joy said: “One of the first dates with my late husband Jim was at the Lyric, and so began many happy years together and many happy nights at this wonderful theatre. It therefore seemed fitting to name a seat in his memory.”

“Marie McQuillan, a former drama teacher, added: “My husband Gerry named a seat for me as a gift to celebrate my life-long love of drama, theatre and the performing arts. I look forward to many nights at the new Lyric in 2011 and beyond.”

There are just over 100 seats left still to name, as the new main auditorium will house 389 seats, so make sure to name yours in this intimate and unique place. Find out more, visit
