Belfast singer Tanya Strowger has walked off with a handcrafted Avalon guitar after stealing the Spotlight slot at Ards International Guitar Festival last week.
Some of the province’s most talented singer-songwriters took the stage to try and win over festival directors Ernie McMillen, Adele Ingram-Magee, Darren Porter, and Downtown’s Robert Skates.
Thirty-year-old Tanya became the first female to take the ‘Spotlight’ title. Her prize includes the guitar created especially for the event, a place on stage during the festival and a gig in a Botanic Inns venue.
Born in Penzance in Cornwall, she started playing guitar at the age of 8, singing at 12, and was gigging by the time she was 14 and has lived in the Ormeau Road area for years.
Tanya formed the group ‘The Whiskey Princes’who have recorded their debut album at Railway Studios in Lisburn. 'One More Time For Fluffy and The Blue Jays' is due for release in the middle of October.
