Team calls on judge to lift ban on promotion
A High Court judge has been urged to overturn a ruling which has denied an intermediate soccer club promotion to the Irish Championship.
Mid Ulster League side Dollingstown FC have been stopped from moving up in a dispute over the alleged ineligibility of one of its players.
The case centres on a conflict between transfer windows set by world governing body Fifa and at local level.
Dollingstown was knocked off its table-topping position following a complaint about the signing of Ashley Gregg in January.
Under the rules governing the Mid Ulster League, players cannot be transferred after December 31.
However, lawyers for Dollingstown argue that professionals are not banned from playing in the league and that Fifa's January transfer window must apply.
Lord Justice Coghlin indicated he would deliver judgment sometime next week.
