Teen injured in 'off the ball' incident during Glenavon v Ballymena United

A 16-year-old has sustained facial injuries during an incident between two players at a football match between Glenavon and Ballymena United.

Police are appealing for information about the alleged assault which is reported to have happened during an "off the ball" incident between two players at the game in Lurgan.

Constable Colin Payne said: “During a football match between Glenavon and Ballymena at football grounds on Mourneview Avenue on Wednesday night, 12 August, it was reported that an assault occurred during an ‘off the ball’ incident between two players.

"A 16-year-old male sustained facial injuries which required medical treatment.

“This incident would have occurred in view of the people who attended the match and we would like to hear from any spectators who witnessed the assault or have information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Lurgan on 101, quoting ref: 337 150815.”
