A teenager with 59 previous convictions "steals to fund his addiction to legal highs," a court has heard.

Liam Foster (18), from Kinnaird Street, Belfast, was arrested on a warrant and appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday, where an application for bail was refused by a district judge who said there was a "huge risk" of him committing further offences.

Foster was arrested for several alleged offences including stealing skin cream worth £109 from Boots chemist in Sandy Row.

Telling the court Foster "steals to fund an addiction to legal highs", his solicitor spoke of the availability of "substances" in Hydebank YOC and asked that Foster to granted bail to seek assistance for his addiction.
