Two teenagers have been killed in a car crash in Rostrevor, Co Down.

They were killed after their car crashed on the Kilbroney Road just before midnight on Monday.

The car hit a wall, which caused a fire at a nearby oil tank which then spread to a home.

A third teenager is in a critical condition in hospital.

Police said the three men were aged in their late teens.

The Fire Service attended the scene and tackled fires at both the property and in the car.

Station commander David McComiskey described the situation as a "very difficult scenario".

The elderly female resident in the home was also taken to hospital and treated for shock.

Her home was left badly damaged.

Inspector Stephen Humphries said: “We are working to establish the circumstances of the collision and I am appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the Kilbroney Road prior to the time of the collision and who may have seen a silver Volkswagen Bora on the road. The number to call is 101.”
