The late show for Bailey, and Little Pengelly ousted
Green Party MLA Clare Bailey said her victory was made sweeter as it helped prevent the DUP having enough MLAs to mount a petition of concern.
Ms Bailey and Ulster Unionist candidate Michael Henderson had to wait until after 3am to find out which had triumphed, with the UUP man edged out.
The DUP was overtaken by Alliance and lost one of its most prominent MLAs, Emma Little Pengelly. The former Stormont special adviser was eliminated after the redistribution of votes from Claire Hanna (SDLP) and Paula Bradshaw (Alliance) following their election.
The DUP's Christopher Stalford was re-elected after Ms Little Pengelly's votes were redistributed.
Earlier, Sinn Fein's Mairtin O Muilleoir came in strongly on the first count.
Ms Hanna and Ms Bradshaw were elected at stage six following the exclusion of their respective running mates, Naomh Gallagher and Emmet McDonough-Brown.
