Thief is jailed for Christmas shop robbery
A former nurse graduate with 67 previous convictions, who admitted stealing £500 from a Londonderry shop last year, has been jailed for two years.
Patrick McCrossan, whose address was given as care of Maghaberry Prison, stole the money from the Carlisle Stores in Carlisle Road on December 15. McCrossan was recorded on CCTV when he jumped over the counter and grabbed the money from a till.
The 38-year-old was wearing a hoodie over his face, but minutes after he ran from the shop he was recorded outside a sheltered accommodation centre in nearby John Street.
Yesterday at the Crown Court in Londonderry, Judge Philip Babington said McCrossan had a high likelihood of re-offending.
