Three people were taken to hospital when masked gangs attacked them in two separate burglaries in Co Antrim.

A man and woman were assaulted in a house in the Ballybogey Road area of Ballymena at around 1.25am. Both were treated in hospital.

A 50-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of aggravated burglary and assault.

Earlier in the night, a number of masked men forced their way into a house in the Greenland Parade area of Larne at around 10pm and assaulted a man inside with batons. The victim, aged in his 50s, also required hospital treatment.

Police are not linking the incidents at this stage. Detectives have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
