A two-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in Londonderry, police said.

The toddler was hit on the Lone Moor Road - beside the Brandywell Stadium - on Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said the collision happened at around 1:15pm.

The driver of a silver Citroen Picasso car involved in the incident has spoken to police.

Inspector David McIlwaine has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to get in contact.

Police said enquiries are ongoing.

The Lone Moor Road was closed for a time after the collision.
