A toddler was seriously injured in a car crash in Co Down on Thursday morning.

The Rubane Road in Kircubbin was closed for some hours after a Volvo S40 and a Ford Transit collided at 8.15am.

A two-year-old girl was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries.

Inspector John McClurg said: "Her condition is described as serious.

"A male in his 30s, believed to be the driver of the lorry and the female driver in her 30s of the Volvo have both been treated at a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries."

Witnesses are asked to call police on the non-emergency number, 101.
