Tommy Bowe and new wife Lucy Whitehouse are just the perfect match
Rugby heart-throb Tommy Bowe has married his beauty queen sweetheart.
The Ulster, Ireland and Lions winger tied the knot with Lucy Whitehouse in her native Wales on Saturday.
Although both Belfast-based, the handsome couple made the decision to have the ceremony in Laugharne, west Wales, as that is where they first met - and where he proposed.
On the big day, the bride, who works as a nurse in Belfast, wore a stunning strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline and full satin skirt, while her beau looked dapper in a black suit and pink tie.
Tommy (31) and Lucy (27) were introduced by mutual friends in 2011 and the romance culminated in the Co Monaghan man popping the question on Easter Sunday last year.
A large number of Tommy's Ulster team-mates and some ex-playing colleagues from Welsh team Ospreys - which he was playing for when they met -turned out for the wedding.
Ironically, Tommy's first rugby match after the honeymoon will be Wales v Ireland in Cardiff on August 8.
The new Mrs Bowe, a former Miss Wales and a huge fan of the men from the valleys, is likely to attend that World Cup warm-up fixture and resume the divided loyalties she's had since meeting Tommy four years ago.
Welsh band The Soul Miners performed at the reception and were full of praise for Bowe.
Musician Mark Cowley took to Twitter after the big bash to share an image of his band with the rugby ace, saying that he was a "top bloke".
He wrote: "One happy Tommy Bowe after my band filled his wedding dance floor. Tidy."
The happy duo may have been smiling all the way down the aisle but the news has left a trail of devastation across the country and beyond.
Heartbroken female fans of the hunky sportsman used the social networking forum to express their sadness that he is officially off the market.
Irish Music Feed tweeted: "Women and men across the land weep! Our imaginary husband has got hitched."
Meanwhile, Alannah Ganly wrote: "Well, Tommy Bowe is officially married. There goes my chances."
There had been much speculation in recent times over the impending nuptials, with the loved-up couple taking a leaf out of Christine Bleakley and Frank Lampard's book by leading the media on a merry dance regarding their plans.
It was previously thought that they would have their wedding in the luxurious Castle Leslie in Tommy's native Monaghan, which is where his former Ireland colleague Gordon D'Arcy wed Aoife Cogan.
Until Saturday, the actual venue and date of the wedding remained a closely guarded secret.
Bowe recently revealed he was leaving the majority of the planning up to blonde beauty Lucy.
"I'm trying to stay as far out of it as I can," he laughed.
"I imagine I'll end up turning up in some burgundy suit and she'll probably kill me."
