Toomebridge: Man "critical" in hospital after late night assault

A man is described to be "critically ill" in hospital from a head injury after he was assaulted in Toomebridge in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after being first being treated at Antrim Area Hospital.

He was discovered in the early hours of Sunday morning and is now receiving ntensive care treatment.

Police closed the Hillhead Road in Toomebridge to traffic on Sunday as an investigation into the assault got underway.

Police said that diversions are in place and advised motorists to use the Aughrim Road and Annaghmore Road.
