An eclectic line-up of international media figures will take part in a major conference to be held in Londonderry as part of the City of Culture events.
Hosted by the University of Ulster, journalists, film-makers, television producers, photographers, digital media practitioners and media theorists will discuss ‘Spaces and Places of Culture’.
This will be one of the first major events to be held in Derry as part of its year-long tenure as the UK City of Culture 2013 which opens on January 9 and is expected to generate much discussion about media representation and national identity.
It is also the first time that the conference has been held in Northern Ireland and, according to event organisers, it has generated a lot of interest and attracted some “big hitters”.
Among them will be Phil Redmond, producer of classic television shows including Brookside, and Grange Hill, and veteran of Liverpool’s European City of Culture year in 2008.
He was part of the judging panel which awarded Derry the title of City of Culture and he will be joined on the platform by Shona McCarthy, chief executive of Culture Company 2013.
