The A1 in Northern Ireland has re-opened after emergency services dealt with a fire involving gas cannisters nearby.

Police closed A1 until the Fire Service ensured the area was safe.

The Northern Ireland Fire Service received a call at midday to the report of the fire involving a gas cylinder at Rowantree Road, Dromore.

Four fire appliances were sent to the scene and firefighters using thermal imaging cameras and jets dealt with the incident.

A NIFRS spokesman said: “The A1 Dual carriageway was closed in both directions by Police Service of Northern Ireland who carried out traffic management during the incident. The A1 dual carriageway has now re-opened.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 2:57pm and the incident has been passed through to the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland.”
