Translink issues fraud warning

Translink NI Railways is reminding passengers on the Bangor line that it is their responsibility to ensure they are carrying a valid ticket for their journey.
It follows a recent court case in which a passenger was fined for using a fraudulent ticket in North Down.
Local area manager Gerard McAtarsney said: “We take fare evasion very seriously and will prosecute where we can. Ticket inspections are carried out both on board trains and in stations, so you risk a criminal conviction and a fine of up to £1,000 every time you travel without paying the correct fare.
“Elimination of fare evasion and fraudulent tickets will allow us to ensure that money is going back into the business to offer a better value service to all our fare paying customers.
“We adopt a zero tolerance approach to all antisocial behaviour including safety related issues and ticketing offences and take steps to prosecute where we can. Last year around 220 people were prosecuted with total fines of almost £35,000 given to offenders.”
Passengers are reminded to purchase a ticket from the ticket desk in the station or conductor on board. Weekly and monthly tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.translink.co.uk.
Translink also continues to highlight the reward scheme, which offers up to £1,000 reward to anyone who gives evidence leading to a successful prosecution.
