Transport hub's name is revealed
Belfast's major new transport hub will be called Weavers Cross if approved, Translink announced yesterday.
The £175m development is set to replace the Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street Train Station complex, and will be situated on a nearby eight-hectare patch of land.
The new name was chosen following consultation with the local community and civic and statutory bodies.
A Translink spokeswoman said inspiration was drawn from the area's industrial heritage and geography - it was once one of the city's main industrial centres and a key crossing over the Blackstaff River.
A planning application for the project is due to be submitted this spring.
If granted approval, construction site enabling work is due to start early next year.
Actual construction work could start as early as 2019, with those behind the scheme hoping for a 2021 opening.
