Tribute to Malcolm Brodie at Mary Peters Track sports track
A section of the new multi-million pound Mary Peters Track will be named after former sports editor of the Belfast Telegraph, Malcolm Brodie.
Mr Brodie famously reported on 14 World Cup football finals from 1954 – more than any other journalist – and was 86 when he died in January.
The decision to name the photo finish and public address booth in the stadium after the legendary football writer was made at last night's meeting of Belfast City Council.
The newly refurbished £3m athletics track officially opened last week.
UUP Jim Rodgers said it was a fitting honour given Mr Brodie's contribution to sport.
"Mr Brodie was held in such high esteem," he said.
