The funeral has taken place of a man killed in a clay pigeon shooting accident in Co Down.

Terry Fitzsimons, a father of seven, was described as "a quiet gentleman".

He died after an incident at the shooting club event near Downpatrick on Sunday.

Mr Fitzsimons' funeral took place yesterday morning at St Patrick and St Joseph's Church in Ballykinler.

Requiem Mass was led by Castlewellan Parish Priest Fr Denis McKinlay.

After the service Mr Fitzsimons was buried in the adjoining cemetery.

The exact circumstances of his death are not clear, with police describing it as a tragic accident.

It is understood he died after a firearm was discharged at Lough Money, which is situated in rocky countryside near Ballyalton, outside Downpatrick.
