Tributes have been paid to a Co Tyrone teenager who died after being found unconscious in his bed yesterday morning.

The victim, who passed away in Dungannon, has been named locally as Daryl Comac.

It is understood that the fifth-year pupil at Patrick's Academy was found unconscious by a relative who called for an ambulance at around 8.10am.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said paramedics had attended the scene but added no one was taken to hospital.

Police also visited the scene, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

It is believed that a post mortem will be carried out today in a bid to ascertain the exact cause of death.

A Dungannon councillor said she was "devastated" to learn of Daryl's sudden death.

SDLP representative Denise Mullen told how the young victim had played football with her own son at Killyman St Mary's GFC.

"All day today groups of this young lad's friends have been coming in to my coffee shop and they are just completely devastated," she added.

"My heart goes out to his family - particularly so close to Christmas - and I would like to extend my sympathies to them.

"The young lad played under-16 football with my son in Killyman and there was a great unity among all the lads. It is just devastating."

A well-wisher posed on Facebook: "Today heaven gained an angel. Taken from the world far too young. [His] group [of GAA team-mates] has lost a best friend and teammate.

"Daryl you were a great lad and it was a pleasure to have known you. Rest in peace."

Another person added: "Never did we think we would be starting minor season without one of the best backs in the country. Daryl you were always great craic."
