Tributes to Newry father who was killed in cycling accident
A father-of-two who died in a road accident has been described as an "absolute gentleman who would walk to the end of the Earth for you".
John Paul McKevitt was killed as he cycled along the northbound carriageway of the A1 just outside Newry at about 8.30pm on Thursday.
The 34-year-old from Newry died in hospital of his injuries following the crash involving a lorry.
A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Mr McKevitt was a father of two young boys — one is thought to be just a few months old.
He was a former member of Rockview Football Club in Newry and the club paid a moving tribute to him last night.
Vice-chairman Aidan Gill told the Belfast Telegraph: “He was a gentleman. If you asked him to do anything he would have done it.
“He would have walked to the end of the Earth for you.”
