Tweet to spread the word of God, says top cleric Eamon Martin
One of Northern Ireland's most senior Catholics has urged people to spread the word of God – on Twitter.
The Co-adjutor Archbishop of Armagh, Eamon Martin, encouraged Catholics to log onto the web and "bring the message and compassion of Christ to all those they meet online".
In a statement from the Irish Bishops' Conference, the Derry man welcomed the Pope's message to mark World Day of Social Communications yesterday, in which he stressed the importance of embracing the internet as a forum for spreading faith.
Dr Martin commended the efforts made around the country to develop a strong online religious presence through web-streaming of Mass, sacred online prayer spaces and discussion forums.
"I applaud those in Ireland who witness to their love of Jesus on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and a host of other digital platforms," he said.
Pope Francis told his congregation in an address yesterday "by means of the internet, the Christian message can reach to the ends of the earth".
