Twelfth 2016 Kilkeel: Biggest lodge in Orange Order out for a day of family fun
One thousand Orangemen from the Mournes, representing the largest district in the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, paraded through the harbour town of Kilkeel yesterday.
The stunning backdrop offered by the mountains and the Irish Sea provided the perfect setting for the exciting Twelfth demonstration.
The day was very much family-orientated, with 14 of the 15 lodges taking part in the south Down procession, accompanied by their own band.
Visitors and holidaymakers also added to the crowds enjoying the carnival atmosphere, including those from local caravan parks.
Among those stepping out were brethren of the biggest private Orange lodge, Ballyvea LOL 343a, which boasts 154 members.
The lodge had its new banner on display, as did Cumberland LOL 506 and Kilkeel True Blues LOL 1034.
Like so many gatherings across Northern Ireland this year, yesterday's parade in Kilkeel commemorated those soldiers who lost their lives at Battle of the Somme, and a new district bannerette was displayed at the front.
The Kilkeel parade followed the traditional Eleventh Night pageant in the town, including an open air concert and an impressive fireworks display.
