Two anglers are rescued after their boat runs aground
Two anglers have been wished a speedy recovery by an MP after a near tragedy when their boat grounded suddenly at the mouth of Ardglass harbour.
The boat hit rocks close to Phennick Point on Monday at around 12.45pm and ran aground.
The two men onboard managed to climb to safety onto nearby rocks and the vessel was towed away by another boat in the area.
The RNLI lifeboat assisted at the scene and the men were cared for by the Portaferry Coastguard team.
Last night South Down MP Margaret Ritchie said people in the Ardglass area were thinking of the anglers following their ordeal.
"There is widespread relief within the community that this incident was not more serious," she said. "The quick actions of the two men involved, the nearby boat and the response from the Coastguard is to be commended.
"This would have been a traumatic ordeal and our hopes are for a speedy recovery for the two men."
