Police have arrested two people following a police pursuit which ended on the Shore Road in north Belfast in the early hours of Saturday.

Officers arrested a man aged 28 and a woman aged 30 after a car in the Skegoneill area failed to stop.

Detective Inspector Stewart said: "A Mercedes car was signalled to stop at around 1.50am by officers carrying out increased anti-burglary patrols in the Skegoneill area. The car failed to stop and was pursued by a trained police pursuit driver for around 10 minutes, with the car finally being stopped at the Shore Road.

"Checks were carried out and the car was confirmed as having been stolen as a result of a burglary in East Belfast on Friday 11th December. A search of the vehicle uncovered items reported as stolen following a burglary in Newtownabbey, also on Friday.

"The male driver was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary, aggravated taking and driving away, no insurance, no licence and failing to stop for police.

"The female passenger was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary, aggravated taking and driving away and no insurance. Both remain in custody assisting with enquiries at this time.”
