Two people have been killed in road crashes in Co Tyrone overnight.

A man in his 40s died after a collision involving a lorry and a van at around 10pm last night on the Melmount Road in the Victoria Bridge area of Strabane.

A 49-year-old man arrested after the incident has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, causing death by driving whilst uninsured, no insurance and failing to have recording equipment fitted to his vehicle, namely a tachograph.

He is due to appear at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

A woman in her 50s was killed in a one car crash at around 2.30am on Sunday on the Moneymore Road in Cookstown.

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incidents to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

So far this year 20 people have been killed on Northern Ireland's roads.

Their deaths come within hours of the tragic death of pedestrian Jayne Burnside, also in Co Tyrone.

The 23-year-old was knocked down and killed by a vehicle on the Gortagammon Road in the Tullyhogue area just before 1am on Saturday.
