Published 25/05/2015

Two elderly women have been targeted in an attempted distraction burglary in east Belfast.

At approximately 11.30am on Monday morning it was reported that a man entered the house of two elderly women.

He had photographic identification but did not give the woman time to examine it.

He claimed that he was looking for the electric and water before he left the premises empty handed.

The two women were suspicious of the man and reported it to the police.

Detective Sergeant Melanie McGrory said: "These two women were suspicious of this man and did the right thing by reporting this to police. The man is described as being tall and thin and was wearing grey woollen gloves.

"I would ask anyone who notices any suspicious activity in their area, or who knows anything about this incident, to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
