Two men appear in court charged with weekend arson attack
Two men have appeared in court in Belfast accused of an arson attack which damaged properties in Newtownabbey over the weekend.
Jonathan Lightbody (23) and Mark Corry (25) face charges following a fire at Kings Avenue early on Saturday morning.
A garden shed was destroyed during the blaze which also reportedly spread to an adjacent oil tank.
Lightbody, of Kings Gardens, and Corry, from Fernagh Drive, both in Newtownabbey, are each charged with arson with intent to endanger life. They are also jointly accused of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a baseball bat. Lightbody faces two further counts of arson over damage caused to garden fences and one of common assault. Corry is also charged with burglary with intent to steal by allegedly entering a house on Kings Avenue.
Both men were granted bail to stay at locations away from the scene of the incident.
