Two men sentenced over attack on Catholic
Two “thugs” who were part of a “cowardly” loyalist mob that attacked a Catholic man have been handed a total of two-and-a-half years in custody.
Peter Clarke (20) was ordered to spend a year in a Young Offenders Centre to be followed by a further year on probation, while Kyle Adams (18) had his 18-month term suspended for three years.
Sentencing the pair at Belfast Crown Court, Judge Patrick Lynch QC told them it was “depressing and chilling” that a man “should be attacked for no other reason other than he is perceived to be of a different persuasion”.
Members of the 10-strong gang shouted “Kill the Fenian b******” as they cornered Raymond Sloan who was on his own in Duncairn Gardens on June 30, 2008.
