Two people have escaped an arson attack at a house in north Belfast using a neighbour's ladder.

Police said the blaze, which was discovered at a house in Mackey Street just after midnight on Sunday, was started maliciously.

Two people who had been asleep on the first floor of the house escaped.

A wheelie bin was found on fire next to the door of the house, a PSNI spokesman said.

Police have appealed for information and are investigating a motive for the attack.
