Two viable pipe bombs discovered in Londonderry
Two pipe bombs have been recovered during a policing operation in Londonderry.
Officers believe the devices, found in the Highmoor Road area of the city on Thursday, may have been intended for use by dissident republicans.
Police Service of Northern Ireland Chief Inspector Gordon M cCalmont said: "These devices were viable and I welcome the fact that we have discovered them and made them safe.
"One line of inquiry is that these devices are connected to violent dissident republican terrorism. While there are a small minority who are intent to cause terror in our community, this operation shows that police remain committed to keeping people safe and we will continue to work tirelessly to do so."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
