Ukip's David McNarry sorry over Stormont rule breach
Ukip's only MLA has apologised after using a Stormont room to launch his party's general election manifesto.
Assembly bosses have officially rapped Strangford MLA David McNarry because the event breached rules governing the appropriate use of Parliament Buildings.
Yet the Assembly Commission, which is responsible for its day to day running, decided not to punish Mr McNarry or his party.
That decision has brought the Commission in for sharp rebuke, with a demand that Ukip should have been billed.
The Alliance Party said the failure to sanction Mr McNarry "sends out the wrong signal" and could encourage others to breach the rules.
An Assembly spokesperson said: "Mr McNarry has been reminded that the guidance issued to all Members in advance of the general election 2015 prohibits the use of Parliament Buildings for campaigning or any party activity relating to the election.
