Ulster rugby's Chris Henry engaged to sweetheart Jade Hamilton
Ireland and Ulster rugby star Chris Henry has got engaged to his long term girlfriend, who helped him through a dramatic health scare 16 months ago.
Henry (31) popped the question ahead of a sunshine break to celebrate and he announced the news on social media.
The flanker wrote on Instagram: "Had the most amazing two weeks with my best friend and new fiancee!"
He posted a photo which showed him smiling alongside his fiancee and long-time girlfriend Jade Hamilton (24) which appeared to have been snapped on a yacht.
The loved-up couple looked tanned and happy, and Henry was in a relaxed pose with a pair of sunglasses perched on his head.
Jade, a graduate of Glasgow University, is from Greencastle, Co Donegal, and works for the Empire Comedy Club in Belfast.
She had helped her Belfast-born beau to recover after a mini-stroke at the end of 2014 which led to him needing heart surgery.
It was feared the Ulster Player of the Year in 2010 would never play again.
At the time, Henry tweeted: "Overwhelmed by all the kind messages of support for myself, my girlfriend and my family. I'm in good hands to get myself back better than ever."
The health scare came just hours before he was due to turn out for Ireland.
An Irish Rugby Football Union statement in 2014 said that Chris had suffered some weakness on the morning of the South Africa game and a viral illness was suspected. He recovered quickly and the initial diagnosis was of severe migraine.
But further tests revealed a temporary blockage of a small blood vessel in his brain. He had suffered what is known as a Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) due to a hole in his heart.
Henry was only out for months following the diagnosis and returned to be part of the Ireland squad in the World Cup.
