US diplomat Richard Haass back to discuss fresh Northern Ireland talks
The US diplomat whose talks to resolve some of Northern Ireland's most intractable problems ended in disarray over the New Year is in Dublin today.
Dr Richard Haass, who co-chaired last year's negotiations on flags, parades and dealing with the past, is to meet Irish Foreign Minister Eamon Gilmore to discuss his proposal to restart talks.
Dr Haass will later fly on to London, where it is understood Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg are aware of Mr Gilmore's plan.
While party talks have been going on between the leaders of the Executive parties – apart from the UUP – there has been little sign of any progress.
The talks are due to resume next week.
