A crude explosive device has been found in East Belfast.

A security alert was sparked when a suspicious object, described by police as viable, was found in the Beersbridge Road area on Wednesday morning.

Army bomb disposal experts removed the device for forensic analysis.

The Beersbridge Road, which was sealed off as a precautionary measure, has since been re-opened.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives at Musgrave Street station on 101.
